👥 Elios Reserve – Dark Shadow Haze
Dark Shadow Haze is new to me, though its genetics are super old school. Bred by Rare Dankness, it crosses Grape Ape with Neville’s Wreck. The former improves on the beloved Mendo Purps with Haze and Afghan, making a high testing, a hard hitter that carries over the signature bright grape aroma. Neville’s Wreck is a similar concept except with a higher testing cut than Trainwreck. Together we get a unique, nuanced flavour with an energizing hardcore buzz.
Opening the pack, you are met with a strong Pledge aroma. Surprising as the limonene test is low, especially for something with so much energy. What it does have is a whole lot of terpinolene with a rarer terp called carene. Lately, terpinolene has become more common, as a terp easier to select from indica genetics that still has the desired uplifting effects. Carene can be thought of similarly to pinene as another slightly sweet, woodsy-smelling terp that is great for mental energy.
Smoking it, the first thing you notice is the taste—slightly skunky but also very earthy in a sweet way, like green tea. On the exhale, the sweetness shines through with Fall fresh Honeycrisps. The uplift hits right away, immediately energizing your mind and body. The overall high does not swing with the complete 30% but is still very much on the stronger end, especially at its upper mid-tier price. This is a productive weed, making work, writing, or hiking a breeze, and with the high test, you can be sure it will still punch.
Overall this is a great first showing by Elios. All the pieces are there, a great grow and cure on some potent and tasty genetics. Get out of the shadows.. time to wake n bake at dawn. 🍏🥭🍊🔋🔋
